SKYWATCH FRIDAY -- Half Full? Half Empty?

After the 9/11 attacks in the U.S., and several natural disasters, utility companies were instructed by the government to do everything possible to minimize disruption to energy distribution. Soooo..... in many cases that means cutting trees out of the way of power lines, or removing them altogether. Apparently this family, chose to have the tree merely "trimmed."

I shot this photo on Sycamore Road in Knox County, Ohio about a month ago. Today, the leaves have fallen and winter is here. The area is expecting an ice storm tonight, and heavy snow Friday into Saturday.

Everytime I drive that road, the odd shape of what's left of that tree just strikes me. I finally slowed enough to shoot three frames.

  2. Great eye to capture this, and a really bad tree-trimming job! Wonder if the tree will survive?

  3. I would have expected the public servants to chop off everything that sticks out into the road - that's just the opposite. Intriguing image.

  5. Oh goodness. Makes for a really lovely photo, but the poor tree! Guess it's good that they spared half of it. I used to see trees cut like this in Dallas a lot, but haven't noticed that practice in Baton Rouge. Have a great weekend!

  6. I just showed this photo to my husband. We had our big trees trimmed earlier this year, to keep them a way from the power lines, and to keep branches from falling on our dog or our house (dog of first importance, house second). We agreed we had never seen a trim quite like this one. Thanks for sharing it on Skywatch Friday.

  7. That is just disturbing to view! I wonder how long the poor tree will last like that.
